Wanjis Food Industries founders established the company as a full social enterprise that is actively engaged in finding solutions that improve the nutritional status of the populations in developing countries.

The company was founded on the premise that by improving access to nutritious meals in developing countries, it will have contributed to alleviating poverty as the kids growth and development is enhanced to enable them become productive members of the society.

All profits made from the sales are ploughed back to increase the capacity of the company to reach more people with these nutritious foods.

In line with its status as a social enterprise, the company aims to actively be involved in the following;

I. Poverty eradication
Our poverty eradication objective will be achieved in the following ways;

• By improving access to nutrition to infants in developing countries, these kids will experience normal growth and development and thus escape the adverse effects associated with malnutrition. Some of these effects are stunted growth and mental impairment which makes them unproductive members of the society
• Our innovative retail distribution chain involves using thousands of young people selling the foodstuffs to retail stores across the whole country.
• By creating employment opportunities in our industry

II. Employment creation
Our company offers employment to thousands of people directly and indirectly. We employ 20 full time employees and 30 part-time employees in our company. Indirectly we offer jobs to suppliers, retail stores, farmers and their laborers in addition to itinerant traders spread across the whole country.

III. Fair trade
We pay a fair price for all raw materials that we buy. We always ensure that farmers who supply us with goods adhere to good employment practices and pay their workers a fair wage.

IV. Economic development
Countries in this region heavily rely on agriculture for close to 80% of their GDP. We are involved in deepening this economic sector by engaging in agri-processing locally and thus value creation.

We are also involved in technology transfer by bringing in the latest technology in food processing from the USA.

V. Nutrition education
We are aiming to aggressively educate the population on the importance of good nutrition on their growth and development especially for young infants.

We are partnering with the Nutrition department in the Kenyan Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation to educate people on eating right.

VI. Malnutrition eradication
This remains our top most goal. We are in the business of eradicating malnutrition of infants and kids and will seek more partnership to make it happen.

A national program in conjunction with the Kenyan Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation Nutrition department will be a first step in taking concrete steps to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition.
